A businesswoman and her 10-year-old son were kidnapped by four unidentified gunmen over the weekend in Pagadian City in Zamboanga del Sur province , the military said Monday.
Major General Romeo Lustestica, head of the Army's 1st Infantry Division, identified the victims as Babeth Gomonit and son Ceekim Gomonit.
Lustestica said the still unidentified men barged inside the Gomonit residence at about 10:45 p.m. last Saturday, October 30, and hogtied members of the household. Using the family's sports utility vehicle, they fled bringing the victims along with them.
On Sunday, October 31, local policemen recovered the vehicle -- a blue Isuzu Trooper with plate number KBG 711 -- in Takuran town, also in Zamboanga del Sur.
"Sa ngayon wala pang suspects ang [Philippine National Police] at saka [Armed Forces of the Philippines]. Ongoing pa ang investigation ng PNP. Yung intel gathering ng AFP, medyo blank," Lustestica said in an interview.
(The military and the police have yet to identify the suspects as of now. The investigation by the PNP is still ongoing and the intelligence gathering of the AFP is still kind of blank.)
Lustestica said members of the Army's 1st ID "are conducting checkpoint operations and intelligence gathering" to support the police's rescue operations.
A local crisis management team was also activated last Sunday to resolve the Gomotins' abduction.
The abductors have yet to demand ransom, Lustestica said.
"Wala pang nagpapaabot ng demands for ransom or whatever demand . . . wala pang communication sa nag-abduct sa kanila (There's no demand for ransom yet, no communication from the abductors)," he said, adding that the victims' family owns a construction business. - Sophia Regina Dedace/KBK, GMANews.TV
