When Prince Andrew was pictured on a yacht getting touchy-feely with a woman half his age, the denials came thick and fast.
They're just friends, said a source, and anyway, she's married.
But now it turns out 25-year-old Alexandra Escat is in fact single - and the pair have since been seen jetting off together.
The Duke of York, 50, was seen engrossed in a playful conversation with the Filipino model on a luxury yacht last week.
Miss Escat, who says her motto is 'the uneventful life is not worth having', was again pictured with the Duke the following afternoon during lunch on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia.
A source close to the Duke said there was 'categorically no link' between the pair, claiming the brunette was the wife of another guest on the yacht.
But friends of the Spanish-born model last night dismissed the source's claim, saying: 'Hell no, she's not married.'
Cheryl Tiu, a wealthy Filipino magazine editor and close friend of the model, confirmed Miss Escat was the bikini-wearing woman snapped giggling as she allowed Prince Andrew to kiss her hand.
She wrote on the social networking website Twitter: 'My friend Alex Escat was spotted yachting with Prince Andrew, Duke of York! Hello Magazine UK said she was the wife of another man.
After meeting on Tuesday and getting to know one another better the following day, Miss Escat appeared to bid an affectionate farewell when Prince Andrew lunched with friends at the Hotel Cala di Volpe in Porto Cervo, a favourite among celebrities.
But on Saturday the pair were together again as they boarded a private jet at Olbia Airport.
Jetting off: The pair were seen boarding a private jet together at Olbia Airport, but their destination is unknown
Back on dry land: The pair joined friends for lunch in Porto Cervo in Sardinia, a favourite among celebrities, last week
Their destination was unclear last night, but Miss Tiu said: 'There is no romance at all. They're just friends.'
Miss Escat is a familiar face on the Philippines party circuit.
She was brought up in Madrid, her mother's birthplace, and studied PR there for five years from the age of 18 before moving back to Manila.
In a column for the Spanish society journal Estilo de Madrid, she described a new beauty clinic as 'very convenient for those quickie Botox injections before going to dinner ... It just makes you want to continue drinking wine all night'.
