TIM YAP |
Tim Yap, socialite, fashion icon to some (not mine), and a host of GMA 7 ,is making another round of media frenzy now after he tactlessly featured a false tweet which said that Miko Morelos won the 6/55 Lotto Jackpot lately. Morelos is a media practitioner, he was also the reporter who broke the news that a lone bettor from Luzon won the lottery.
Because of the tweet, Morelos now suffers, fears for his life as well as his family after being tweeted by Tim Yap who has many followers in twitter that Morelos won the jackpot amounting to more than 700 Million Pesos, the highest jackpot in lotto history.
THE TWEET THAT CHANGED ANOTHER MAN'S LIFE COURTESY OF TIM YAP |
MANILA, Philippines – Socialite and TV host Tim Yap has apologized to Philippine Daily Inquirer reporter Miko Morelos after the latter's life and security were compromised due to a tweet of the former, who claimed that Morelos won the P741-million Grand Lotto jackpot prize on Monday.
Yap admitted to ABS-CBN News that he made the tweet based on other people’s tweets. "Nag-compose ako ng sarili kong tweet based on the tweets of several people," he said.
He also said that he immediately corrected his post, but it came too late since many of his followers already read his comments.
Yap admitted that it was his fault and said sorry to Morelos. The journalist, however, did not accept the TV host’s apology.
According to Morelos, above his own security, his family’s safety was put at risk. "Hindi lang ako iyong naapektuhan eh. Pati yung mga sisters ko nga dine-deny nila sa mga classmates nila na hindi. Pero walang naniniwala... hindi sila pinaniniwalaan eh," said Morelos.
“Kapag nag-apologize ka ba whether sa akin lang or sa public, will it... mawawala ba iyong misimpression na iyon," the journalist added.
Despite Yap owning up to the damage that has been done, he said he has already learned his lesson. He also came to realize that with his celebrity status comes great reponsibility. - Report from Marie Lozano, ABS-CBN News

I am into the position that a media practitioner must be tactful in his acts. Let it not be a tool for the destruction of another person's life and security but an aid on developing another man's destiny.
I feel for Mr Morelos. I understand the pit he is into now, I just can't imagine how restricted he movements would be just because of this false news.
Before I forget, Tim was also featured by this blog which I also find interesting and made me say ... ahhhhh...
