Muslim group: two imams pulled from plane bound for North Carolina

(CNN) -- An airline is investigating the removal of two imams from a flight headed to North Carolina, ostensibly because passengers felt uncomfortable with their presence of the pair -- both clad in Islamic attire.

The incident occurred Friday on an Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight from Tennessee to North Carolina and it involved Masudur Rahman and Mohamed Zaghloul were wearing traditional Muslim dress, CNN affiliate WCNC reported.

The two -- who hold high religious positions in the Muslim community -- were headed to North Carolina for a conference on prejudice against Muslims, or Islamaphobia. The meeting is sponsored by the North American Imams Federation.

Rahman, who is a professor at the University of Memphis, told the affiliate that the incident reminded him of the prejudice Rosa Parks faced during the civil rights movement.

"That history I found today in that plane, and it shouldn't happen with any other person," he said.

Atlantic Southeast Airlines, which operated the flight, said the incident is under investigation, and apologized "for any inconvenience that this may have caused."

Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the civil rights group Council on American-Islamic Relations, told CNN the two men contacted his office and said they were told that passengers were uncomfortable with them on the flight.

 

"They went through security, even went through secondary security, and got on the plane, were taxiing out," he said.

But then, they were taxied back, Hooper said.

"TSA came on and pulled them off and said the pilot was refusing to fly with them because passengers were uncomfortable with them," Hooper said, referring to the Transportation Security Administration.

Hooper said officials re-screened them and found they were no threat.

While officials tried to get the men back on the plane, "the pilot absolutely refused and ultimately took off," Hooper said.

The airlines did not say why the two men were taken off the flight, but said they were given the opportunity to fly on a different flight.

"Atlantic Southeast Airlines flight 5452 from Memphis to Charlotte returned to the gate to allow for additional screening of a passenger and the passenger's companion," the statement said. "We take security and safety very seriously, and the event is currently underinvestigation."

These actions, based on the rule of the Law, are directed to compel their federal government to take serious, sustained, and effective action to address the challenge of rapid climate change and global heating. 

The environmental and humanitarian planetary crisis caused by anthropogenic climate change presents the worst case of environmental injustice. Leading climate scientists today warn us that the Earth is in imminent peril, on the verge of runaway climate heating that will impose catastrophic conditions for generations to come. We are already bearing the consequences of a whirlwind of past misdeeds—floods, cyclones, droughts, crop failures, water insecurity, and extreme poverty made worse by degraded environments and economic losses. For island countries, the very existence of their people and their entire country is at threat. 

This is the world that we – the youth of today – will inherit: a parched Earth incapable of sustaining life. No less than our right to self-preservation and self-perpetuation is at stake. 

We have entrusted you, and other decision makers and leaders of today, to be the guardians of our inheritance. You have a window of opportunity to ensure that when our time comes, we will still have the necessary sources of life of Land, Air and Water. These are the assets entrusted to you to protect. A violation of this trust will expose us, and generations to come, to irreparable injury and irreversible damage. 

Younger generations hereby state our intention to take positive action, and where necessary, legal action against malpractice of the trust reposed in our political leaders. The series of legal actions taken by the youth of the United States of America today, backed by an elite team of lawyers and grounded on the common and general principle of the Public Trust Doctrine, is only the beginning. Younger generations have a right to inherit an Earth that has sustained all of human civilization. It must continue to do so. 

How old will you be in 2050? We will be between the ages of 51 and 64, living our lives in the legacy of your decisions today. 

The time for talk is over. It is time for action.

BOLITAS IN MALES: Risky complications for men and women

MANILA, Philippines - Some men want penile implants with the belief that these could provide sexual satisfaction to their partners or be an "enhancing factor" to their masculinity.

These implants come in different forms (from inflatable cylinders to semi-rigid rods), but the most common in the Philippines is the bolitas or round pellets made of plastic or metal.

A study led by Romeo Lee, Ph.D. of the De La Salle University, titled Between the Thighs: Penile Circumcision, Implants and Sexual Gadgets, showed that as much as 6 bolitas may be placed in one penis.

While it observed that the device had pleasurable or no effects among partners, the same study said that using the bolitas comes with its own set of complications. Some male respondents said they experienced "biting, deep and throbbing pain" in their penis, while others had penile inflammation which persisted for days.

Women respondents whose partners were pertinent users of the device, meanwhile, complained of pain, rashes, wounds, bleeding, pus or inflammation in their vagina.

It could be noted that a tear in the vagina makes it susceptible to reproductive tract infections.

"Eleven of the 54 respondents pointed not to the sexual pleasure that their partner received from implant use, but to their vaginal pain. They admitted that their partner was unhappy," the study said.

A bolitas made of plastic is usually formed by melting spoons, ballpens, toothbrushes, rosary beads, necklace beads or deodorant rollers. the study said. Other implants are made of metal or steel balls, ivory, jade or fiberglass.

It has yet to be known, though, how long these items can stay inside the penis.

Also alarming is how the bolitas are inserted into a man's sex organ. The study said that in non-clinics, a sharpened ballpen cap made of hard plastic is used to make an incision for the balls.

"The study made no observation of insertion procedures in clinics because the doctor-owners did not agree to it," it said.

Given these, men are encouraged to think twice before getting bolitas, while non-medical implant providers are urged to make the procedure safe for their clients.

"While waiting for safe or safer practice standards for all providers, the clients ought to learn how to exercise judgment and care in selecting their providers, implants or gadgets for that matter," it said.(http://www.abs-cbnnews.com)
